You might remember if you\u2019re a marketer, but if not, it\u2019s unlikely; most people only remember up to a tenth of the ads they\u2019ve seen in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">That\u2019s one of the findings from market research firm Provoke Insights\u2019s advertising trends report from this summer, a study it\u2019s conducted several times since starting in 2020, according to its president, Carly Fink.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\"><strong>Thank u, next: <\/strong>More specifically, 41% of respondents to the survey, conducted earlier this year among 1,500 Americans ages 21\u201365, said they remembered 1%\u201310% of the ads they\u2019d seen in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Another 20% said they remembered 11%\u201325% of ads they\u2019d seen in that window, and 16% said they remembered 26%\u201350% of ads.<\/li>\n<li>Others (18%) said they didn\u2019t remember any ads they\u2019d seen in the past day.<\/li>\n<li>A much smaller share\u2014just 6%\u2014said they remembered 51%\u2013100% of the ads they saw over the last 24 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">\u201cThere\u2019s so much content everywhere,\u201d Fink told Marketing Brew. \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to remember everything that\u2019s out there, so as a brand\u2026it\u2019s much harder to stand out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">Social and TV have relatively better ad recall than some other channels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three-quarters of those who watch TV weekly said they remembered at least half of the ads, and 77% of those who use social media weekly said the same.<\/li>\n<li>For radio, that share is 48%.<\/li>\n<li>For online news, it\u2019s 39%.<\/li>\n<li>For newspapers, it\u2019s 26%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\"><strong>Great expectations: <\/strong>More than half (57%) of Americans said they expect ads to be entertaining, according to the report, and expectations are higher for some industries than others. Those shopping for outdoor gear, furniture, airline tickets, and fitness products overindex compared to buyers in other categories in terms of their expectations for entertaining ads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\"><strong>Helping hand: <\/strong>Despite the low ad recall, some respondents did agree that ads can be helpful, and they sometimes come to mind while shopping.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the report, 44% said ads help them choose which products to buy, and 42% said they remember ads while shopping.<\/li>\n<li>Almost one-third (29%) said they rely on influencers for help choosing products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">\u201cI actually think that\u2019s quite a high percentage,\u201d Fink said. \u201cIf 29% of the consumer population says social influencers are helping them out, that really shows that area is working.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingbrew.com\/stories\/2023\/07\/18\/americans-have-high-expectations-for-ads-but-don-t-always-remember-them-a-day-later-report-says?utm_source=&#038;utm_medium=syndication&#038;utm_campaign=feed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Get marketing news you&#8217;ll actually want to read The email newsletter guaranteed to bring you the latest stories shaping the marketing and advertising world, like only the Brew can.
