ForbesWomen contributor Amy Shoenthal asks this question in her latest piece for the site, and I\u2019ll confess to a particular interest in the answer (in part because of the ongoing debate around job-hopping; in part because my own round-number workiversary is just around the corner).<\/p>\n<p>Shoenthal\u2019s sources provided her with a variety of opinions on the matter, with some noting that long tenures could make people \u201ca little bit one-dimensional\u201d or create the risk of what one source called \u201cLast Name Syndrome,\u201d which occurs when we make our company part of our identities. Yet others defended workers\u2019 decision to stay put, noting that growing your skills\u2014whether at your current company or elsewhere\u2014is more important than the years marked on your resume.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important to not let safety and security lull you into complacency. \u201cFeeling safe isn\u2019t necessarily a good thing,\u201d said Luminary founder Cate Luzio, who left a 20-year banking career to launch a global education and networking platform for professionals. \u201cAlways be cautiously paranoid, especially if you\u2019ve been there a while.
