While kicking off the event, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan called creators \u201cthe new Hollywood\u201d and emphasized the number of people who are now watching YouTube on their TV sets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\">In the last year, US viewers spent more time watching YouTube than all other major streamers, including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, making it the \u201cleader in streaming watch time in the US,\u201d Mohan said, citing recent data from Nielsen. He added that \u201cviewers watch more than a billion hours of YouTube content on their TVs every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\">\u201cCreators are redefining what we think of as TV, and they deserve the same acclaim as other creative professionals,\u201d Mohan said. \u201cI believe it\u2019s time creators start receiving Emmys.\u201d (The next day, the YouTube series <em>Hot Ones<\/em>, <em>Good Mythical Morning<\/em>, and <em>Chicken Shop Date<\/em> were all announced as Emmys contenders.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\">Several creators made appearances at Brandcast to highlight their content and the the followings they\u2019ve built on the platform. YouTuber Kinigra Deon, who has nearly 4m subscribers and posts movie- and show-length videos to the platform, said her channel racked up 160 million hours of watch time last year, 70% of which came from connected TVs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\">Other YouTubers like Cleo Abram, Zach King, and Haley Kalil also made appearances to introduce and speak about topics including celebrity fandoms, gaming, lifestyle, and sports content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\">The recent phenomenon of athletes becoming YouTube creators was also a topic of discussion, with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell showing up for the second year in a row and former NFL player turned media personality Shannon Sharpe highlighting content like Sharpe, Chad \u201cOchocinco\u201d Johnson, and Gilbert Arenas\u2019s show, <em>Nightcap<\/em>, and <em>New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce<\/em>, in addition to live sports on YouTube TV and postgame content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-d2c797cb-12 rtHHL\"><strong>So, what was new this year?<\/strong> A few new and kind-of-new offerings were announced during Brandcast, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The formalization of YouTube Select Creator Takeovers, which enables advertisers to have 100% share of voice on top creators\u2019 channels, and which first began as a pilot late last year on channels like <em>New Heights<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>A deal with Scripps Sports to stream select locally televised Friday night WNBA games on YouTube TV in both teams\u2019 home markets starting May 31.<\/li>\n<li>The option for advertisers to add their logos to QR code ads, which the platform says will help in \u201cdriving interactivity.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A new Google AI-enabled ad format for non-skip CTV ads, which Sean Downey, president of the Americas and global partners at Google, said will deliver on advertisers\u2019 \u201creach and awareness more efficiently.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingbrew.com\/stories\/2024\/05\/17\/youtube-going-all-in-on-creators-focuses-on-redefining-tv-at-brandcast?utm_source=&#038;utm_medium=syndication&#038;utm_campaign=feed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Get marketing news you&#8217;ll actually want to read Marketing Brew informs marketing pros of the latest on brand strategy, social media, and ad tech via our weekday newsletter, virtual events, marketing conferences, and digital guides.
