{"id":19817,"date":"2023-11-03T14:36:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T14:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mysourcefunding.com\/marketing\/youtube-gets-serious-about-ad-blockers\/"},"modified":"2023-11-03T14:36:34","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T14:36:34","slug":"youtube-gets-serious-about-ad-blockers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mysourcefunding.com\/?p=19817","title":{"rendered":"YouTube gets serious about ad blockers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"style__InlineSubscribeWrapper-sc-6c5f8bb2-1 ejIYkL\">\n<div class=\"style__Container-sc-6fdcc87e-0 style__RoundedContainer-sc-6c630ac0-0 iTWzCH wGFGp\">\n<h5 class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 klywaN inline-subscribe\">Get marketing news you&#8217;ll actually want to read<\/h5>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 djCKmk inline-subscribe\">Marketing Brew informs marketing pros of the latest on brand strategy, social media, and ad tech via our weekday newsletter, virtual events, marketing conferences, and digital guides.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">Ad blockers that previously worked on YouTube are heading to the software farm upstate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">Google has begun a \u201cglobal effort\u201d to crack down on tools that let users bypass advertising, YouTube Ads communications manager Christopher Lawton told Marketing Brew.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">The crackdown, which was first reported by Android Authority, means that video playback may be blocked entirely after three videos if the user does not agree to allow ads. \u201cIt looks like you may be using an ad blocker,\u201d reads a message that appears when using an ad blocker and trying to watch videos on the site, The Verge reported. \u201cVideo playback is blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the ad blocker is disabled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">The message goes on to suggest viewers try YouTube Premium, the company\u2019s ad-free subscription service that costs $13.99 a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">\u201cThe use of ad blockers violate YouTube\u2019s Terms of Service,\u201d Lawton told Marketing Brew in an emailed statement. \u201cWe\u2019ve launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">The global crackdown means the company is expanding a test it began running in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">YouTube has made other efforts to encourage users to watch more ads. Earlier this year, the company revealed 30-second non-skippable ads for TV screens, available for advertisers to purchase through its premium YouTube Select ad inventory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\">In true form, there are already YouTube videos showing users how to bypass the ad-blocker blocker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-630f0a6f-12 eHEXyM\"><strong>+1:<\/strong> Google reported revenue of $77 billion last quarter, an uptick of 11% year over year.
