Will Change Leadership: 13 Ways"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>As there is no longer any disagreement that A.I. will change everything we do, it would be appropriate to stop asking \u201cif\u201d and start asking \u201chow\u201d \u2013 and the best place to start that conversation is to discuss leadership. Because it is the leaders \u2013 or future leaders \u2013 who will get us to this new world, organizations must be clear on what\u2019s expected of its leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, here are some offerings in that arena, based on an understanding of basic leadership principles and how they will be affected.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">1. <strong>Insistence on Creativity<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n<p>A.I. is not only the biggest transformation in human history; it is the most sweeping. As a result, there\u2019s no choice but to get out of comfort zones and be positioned not only to deal with change but to create it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">2. <strong>Talent Acquisition and Management<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n<p>No question: we\u2019ll have to get better at this, as the game is now at a higher level and the stakes are higher every day.<\/p>\n<p><fbs-ad position=\"inread\" progressive=\"\" ad-id=\"article-0-inread\" aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\"><\/fbs-ad><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">3. <strong>Decentralized Organizational Design.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With massive amounts of data available everywhere, there\u2019s no need to let bureaucracy bog things down.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">4. <strong>Autonomous Teams. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Although this has been brewing for decades, A.I.-driven autonomy will see small teams produce huge results. Leaders will just have to summon the guts to enable it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>5. Massive Inbound Intelligence. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s no limit on available intelligence. A.I. can not only find it, A.I. can generate it. But be careful; we know the inherent danger in making stuff up.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>6. More Robust Internal Learning and Development. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>No choice. Either keep up with or ahead of the crowd \u2013 or bust. It\u2019s like flying; the minute you stop flapping your wings, you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>7. Less Benchmarking, More Vision. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, said, \u201cRunning a company on market research is like driving while looking in the rear-view mirror.\u201d She always looked in one direction: forward.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">8. <strong>Leaps, No Bounds<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n<p>Armed with all this power, the risk of taking bold steps is mitigated. Any leader wannabe who doesn\u2019t see that \u2013 and do that \u2013 is not the leader for the future.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>9. Change in Balance Between What\u2019s Strategic and What\u2019s Operational. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Technology used to be a strategic advantage. No longer: The 20<sup>th<\/sup> and 21<sup>st<\/sup> centuries have seen to that.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>10. Predictive Analytics. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It used to be that \u201canalysts make projections and fools make predictions,\u201d but that\u2019s changing. A better word for it might be \u201cexpectations.\u201d Call it what you will, it will be done better from now on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>11. Better Risk\/Reward Decision Making. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Does this one even need a comment?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>12. Transparency.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>True colors show through when you can\u2019t hide them. Tomorrow\u2019s leaders will have to be much more \u201cwhat-you-see-is-what-you-get.\u201d Good.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\"><strong>13. Ethics, Ethics, Ethics.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Leaders either need to dust off their old Ethics textbooks or get with the program on the spot. While A.I. has a huge potential for nefarious abuse, it also has the potential to develop our commitment to all levels of ethics: meta-ethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics.<\/p>\n<p>Surely, more criteria will evolve, and so will commentary like this. But that\u2019s the thing about A.I. It\u2019s still in its wilderness phase. And like Lewis and Clark, there will be new territory iscovered every day.
