After <em>TNF<\/em>\u2019s Prime Video debut last year\u2014which featured new branding and new ad formats\u2014the company is looking to build on last year\u2019s momentum and find more room for improvements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">\u201cWe really took the time to listen to our customers to hear what they wanted, and what [we could] bring to the marketplace that would be different within the NFL,\u201d Danielle Carney, Amazon Ad\u2019s head of NFL sales, told Marketing Brew at the Stream TV Advertising Summit Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\"><strong>The ad stuff: <\/strong>During this year\u2019s upfronts, Prime Video rolled out new ad formats, like interactive ads and audience-based creative targeting that lets advertisers show different ads to different viewers. The latter in particular generated \u201ca lot of traction and excitement\u201d during negotiations, Carney said, and Amazon is pacing \u201cabove our expectations at this point in the ad cycle,\u201d Jay Marine, Prime Video\u2019s VP, global head of sports, said during a call with reporters this week. At last year\u2019s upfronts, Amazon charged between $475,000 to $525,000 per 30-second in-game spot, according to Sportico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">Other trends in the market, including a slowdown in scripted content due to the ongoing writers\u2019 and actors\u2019 strikes, are working in <em>Thursday Night Football<\/em>\u2019s favor, Marine said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">\u201cBecause of some of the strikes and what\u2019s happening in broader entertainment, more ad dollars are flowing to live sports, and there&#8217;s nothing more premium than the NFL,\u201d\u00a0 Marine said. \u201cAnd I would say we\u2019re getting more than our share.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\"><strong>Last season stats: <\/strong>Last year, <em>Thursday Night Football <\/em>averaged around 11 million viewers a game, Marine said, below the average of 16.4 million when the franchise aired on Fox Sports and slightly under the 12.5 million viewers Amazon reportedly told advertisers to expect. Among those viewers, around 17% of <em>Thursday Night Football <\/em>viewers last year never watched <em>Sunday Night Football, <\/em>Carney said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-5a46198a-12 ggMJgB\">On average, <em>Thursday Night Football <\/em>audiences were eight years younger than on other NFL broadcasters, Carney said, something that she emphasized was particularly attractive to advertisers.
