Former Texas congressman and GOP 2024 presidential hopeful Will Hurd tells Forbes <\/em>he thinks he might be tuning in to Wednesday\u2019s first Republican presidential debate, but he will not be joining fellow contenders onstage in Milwaukee. The Texas Republican did not meet the Republican National Committee\u2019s polling qualifications to secure his spot alongside eight fellow contenders who surpassed the requirements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lack of transparency and confusion around the RNC\u2019s debate requirements is antithetical to the democratic process. The polling standards are arbitrary, unclear, and lack consistency,\u201d Hurd said in a statement released on the eve of the debate. What is his message to the RNC?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe RNC should be offended by Donald Trump’s behavior, because he’s basically smacking them in the face and making a mockery of the entire process,\u201d Hurd tells Forbes. <\/em>The former president is expected to surrender Thursday in the Georgia election interference case. Hurd characterizes this as a move \u201cto suck all the oxygen, the air and the attention away from anybody that may have had a moment in the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aside from the polling requirement, Hurd tells Forbes <\/em>that he would not have signed the RNC\u2019s pledge to support any Republican nominee \u201cas is,\u201d and on Tuesday referred to that as a \u201cblood oath to Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the only person in this race that has never bent a knee to Donald Trump,\u201d the former congressman tells Forbes. <\/em>\u201cFor me, I couldn’t lie in order to get onto the debate stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite not making the initial debate, Hurd is optimistic about his campaign \u2014 and was unsparring in his criticism to the race\u2019s frontrunner.<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump is not invincible,\u201d Hurd claims to Forbes <\/em>while discussing the future of his party. \u201cA lot\u2019s going to happen between now and 24 weeks from now, when voting starts in Iowa.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
